4-Person Team Qualifying

On Friday, April 18, at Woodcreek Golf Club, the hpGA held qualifying for the Associate Club Championship. We had 14 golfers attempt to make the team this year. And it was a lovely day for golf.

This year's competition was really close, but there were no ties nor tie-breakers necessary among the top finishers. The scores overall were higher than last year.

First, a "Steady Eddie" is selected and in first place in this category was Sung Oh Sung was also on the last two years' teams that made it through to Monterey. Next we choose a "Streaky Steve" and Mandeep Gill was up for this spot. Mandeep has been on a number of our NCGA teams, but this year will be unable to participate on this one due to a last minute conflict. So next in line was Jay Haro. Jay was a Steady Eddie last year, and has also been on a number of our teams.

The next "Steady Eddie" slot went to Mike Mason. Mike has also been a qualifier before but hasn't been on the 4-person team for a number of years. The next "Streaky Steve" spot went to Alcinda Wolff who will be the fourth member of the team as she was last year.

Ken Findley is the alternate "Steady Eddie." Holden Markle beat a plethora of folks in a tie-breaker to be the alternate "Streaky Steve."

To recap, our 4-person team consists of Sung Oh, Jay Haro, Mike Mason and Alcinda Wolff. Alternates are Ken Findley and Holden Markle.

The next stop for the newly selected team is Local qualifying at Wildhawk GC in Sacramento on May 28. If they can qualify out of this stage they would next play in the Sectional qualifier at Poppy Ridge GC on July 21. If they can make it through they would be off to Spyglass Hill GC and Poppy Hills GC in August for the 36-hole Championship.

Local Qualifier

We were this close! Shot the same score as last year, but this time it was only good for a fifth-place tie. They were taking five teams so the four teams that tied at 128 had a card-off and we finished second. So, we are the first alternate. Next year we need to get that one more birdie!
